The Kansas City Royals' improbable run to their first World Series appearance in 29 years began with one of the most thrilling games in franchise history.
Entering the bottom half of the eighth down 7-3 to the Oakland Athletics in the 2014 American League wild-card game, the Royals staged an extra-inning comeback that saw their speed take over - they had seven stolen bases on the night. The win was capped off by the heroics of Salvador Perez, who roped a game-winning single down the left-field line. Kansas City rallied behind the victory to win its first eight playoffs games that season, which no other team in MLB history has accomplished.
