Yadier Molina's contract is set to expire following the 2020 season and the veteran catcher has been vocal in his desire to either remain with the St. Louis Cardinals or retire. Now, the two parties seem to be working on a deal to prolong the legendary catcher's career for at least one more season.

The Cardinals and Molina are in the midst of trying to work out a contract extension through 2021 and probably 2022 as well, according to Mark Saxon of The Athletic.

Molina, 37, publicly stated he would retire if the Cardinals did not re-sign him beyond the upcoming campaign.

Heading into his 17th season in Major League Baseball, Molina has spent his entire storied career with the Cardinals. The nine-time All-Star signed a three-year, $60-million contract extension as the 2017 season was set to get underway. The nine-time Gold Glove winner hit .270/.312/.399 with 10 homers and six steals last year.
