Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis is off to a hot start this spring and believes he can carry that early success into the 2020 regular season.
Davis, 33, is 5-for-7 with three homers, four walks, and only one strikeout in four exhibition games thus far.
"It's nice to see some results," Davis told Joe Trezza of MLB.com. "I would like to get off to a good start just for peace of mind, especially after struggling the past couple years."
Davis memorably set the MLB all-time record last season for the most plate appearances without a hit, managing to make 62 consecutive trips to the dish without a knock.
The former All-Star's year didn't get much better after that, as Davis wrapped up the campaign with a .179/.276/.326 slash line and 12 homers. Over the past two seasons, the first baseman has been worth minus-4.5 WAR, according to FanGraphs.
"I'll take (homers) in exhibition, spring training, winter ball, whenever," Davis added. "Especially after the way the last two years have gone. I've got plenty of baseball left to give."
Davis owns a .198/.294/.385 slash line to go along with 92 home runs and a whopping 745 strikeouts since he signed his seven-year, $161-million contract with the Orioles prior to the 2016 season. His deal is set to expire following the 2022 campaign.
