Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, top deputy Dan Halem, and former commissioner Bud Selig are set to be deposed by April 3 in relation to a lawsuit stemming from injuries a fan suffered at Wrigley Field in 2017, William Weinbaum of ESPN reports.
The lawsuit reportedly alleges MLB failed to take proper action to protect fans after a safety review in 2015.
Jay Loos, the plaintiff, was struck by a foul ball while seated along the first-base line for a game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs on Aug. 29, 2017. The 62-year-old lost sight in his left eye and sustained multiple facial fractures as a result, Weinbaum adds.
Manfred took over the mantle of MLB commissioner for the 2015 season after being elected to the position in 2014 following Selig's retirement.
MLB announced all 30 teams will have extended netting beyond the dugouts in place for the upcoming season. Some teams will stretch it to both foul poles.
