The Texas Rangers and free-agent first baseman Greg Bird have finalized a minor-league deal that includes an invite to spring training.
Since breaking into the bigs with the New York Yankees in 2015 and authoring an .871 OPS with 11 homers over his first 46 games, Bird has struggled to get consistent playing time while being hampered by multiple injuries.
Most recently, the first baseman was held to 10 games in 2019, as he dealt with a right ankle ailment and plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
The 27-year-old Bird was then non-tendered by the Yankees at the beginning of this offseason.
Over 186 career MLB games, Bird owns a .211/.301/.424 slash line with 32 homers and 98 RBIs.
