The Cincinnati Reds landed reliever Pedro Strop on a one-year deal worth $1.825 million with an additional $1.675 million available in incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Strop, 34, spent the previous seven seasons with the division-rival Chicago Cubs. From 2014-18, Strop was one of their most reliable relievers, posting a 2.61 ERA over 324 appearances while notching 18 saves. However, last year, the right-hander struggled to a 4.97 ERA and 4.53 FIP over 41 2/3 innings.
Strop joins a Cincinnati bullpen currently led by Raisel Iglesias, Michael Lorenzen, and Amir Garrett.
In 2019, the Reds' relief corps ranked fifth in the National League by WAR, collectively authoring a 4.28 ERA and 4.30 FIP.
The addition of Strop is the latest in a busy winter for the Reds, who have already added Mike Moustakas, Shogo Akiyama, Wade Miley, and, most recently, Nick Castellanos.
