After a busy winter, the Chicago White Sox have one goal in mind this season: playing in October.
Meeting with the press on Thursday, White Sox manager Rick Renteria said he "would be disappointed if we don't make the postseason," according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times.
The White Sox are coming off of a 72-89 campaign, during which they finished third in the AL Central, 28 1/2 games back of the division-winning Minnesota Twins. They also finished 23 1/2 games back of the second AL wild-card spot, which was claimed by the 96-win Tampa Bay Rays.
Chicago has been among the most active clubs in the league this winter in addressing its needs. The team landed Yasmani Grandal and Edwin Encarnacion in free agency, re-signed Jose Abreu, inked Luis Robert to a contract extension, and acquired Nomar Mazara via trade. The pitching staff also got free-agent reinforcements in Dallas Keuchel, Gio Gonzalez, and Steve Cishek.
