The St. Louis Cardinals and catcher Matt Wieters have agreed on a 1-year deal worth $2 million that could include an extra $1 million in incentives, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Wieters, 33, backed up Yadier Molina last year, hitting .214/.268/.435 with 11 homers in 67 games in his first season with the Cardinals.

The switch-hitting veteran is a four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner.

Over 11 major-league seasons, Wieters has posted a .724 OPS with the Cardinals, Washington Nationals, and Baltimore Orioles.

The Oakland Athletics were also interested in recruiting Wieters' services, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
