Romero banned 20 games for swinging bat at catcher in Venezuelan league

The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League issued a 20-game suspension to outfielder Alex Romero on Wednesday following a Jan. 8 fracas in which he swung his bat at a catcher, according to The Associated Press.

Romero's ban will extend into next season. Right-hander Angel Nesbitt was suspended for the remainder of the postseason for throwing behind Romero and jump-starting the brawl.
Five players were tossed following the incident after four others had gotten the heave earlier in the game. By the end of the game, 10 total players were ejected.
