The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a one-year, $9-million contract with right-hander Julio Teheran, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The Atlanta Braves declined the $12-million option on Teheran in November, making him a free agent. Teheran had made the previous six straight Opening Day starts for Atlanta, dating back to 2014.
Teheran had spent his entire career to date with the Braves, debuting back in 2011. Over 226 starts and three relief appearances, the two-time All-Star owns a 3.67 ERA and 4.23 FIP. Last year marked his seventh consecutive season of throwing at least 170 innings. He maintained a 3.81 ERA and 4.66 FIP over 174 2/3 frames and went 10-11 in 33 starts.
The 28-year-old joins an Angels team looking to build on a disappointing 2019 campaign after signing Anthony Rendon to a seven-year, $245-million megadeal earlier this winter. With Teheran in the rotation, the Angels' starting staff now consists of Andrew Heaney, Shohei Ohtani, and Griffin Canning, with Dylan Bundy and Patrick Sandoval potentially vying for the fifth and final spot.
