Report: Blue Jays sign Roark to 2-year, $24M contract
The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to sign right-hander Tanner Roark to a contract, sources told Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.
The deal is reportedly worth $24 million over the next two seasons, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Roark split the 2019 season between the Cincinnati Reds and Oakland Athletics. He went 10-10 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 165 1/3 innings.
The 33-year-old has made at least 30 starts in five of the last six seasons. He finished 10th in NL Cy Young voting in 2016 after going 16-10 with a 2.83 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 210 innings with the Washington Nationals.
The Blue Jays weren't the only squad interested in Roark's services, either.
Roark joins a rotation currently projected to include Chase Anderson, Matt Shoemaker, Ryan Borucki, and Trent Thornton.
Even after adding the veteran righty, the Blue Jays are working to add at least one more starting pitcher this offseason, Nicholson-Smith adds. Toronto has been linked to free agents Hyun-Jin Ryu and Dallas Keuchel after missing out on right-hander Kyle Gibson.
