The Gerrit Cole sweepstakes are heating up, with teams expected to make their initial offers in the coming days, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, and Los Angeles Dodgers are the three favorites, reports Passan. The Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies are also working to recruit the right-hander, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Heyman reports the Yankees' "total focus" is on Cole. Members of New York's front office met with the 29-year-old ace and have reportedly received approval from ownership to offer him a record-setting contract.

Cole is coming off an incredible campaign that saw him finish as the runner-up to Houston Astros teammate Justin Verlander for the American League Cy Young award. The three-time All-Star authored a 2.50 ERA and 2.64 FIP over 212 1/3 innings in 2019, leading the majors in strikeouts and ERA+.
