Houston Astros outfielder George Springer has been diagnosed with a mild concussion, but the team is hoping he'll be medically cleared to return early next week, general manager Jeff Luhnow said, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
Springer was carted off the field on Tuesday after making an excellent catch at the wall. He hit his head and appeared dazed before being removed from the game.
Meanwhile, pitcher Aaron Sanchez will miss the rest of the season after undergoing a procedure on his right shoulder next week, McTaggart added. Sanchez's recovery timeline and eventual throwing program won't be known until after the procedure.
The right-hander has been on the 10-day injured list since Aug. 21.
Since being acquired by the Astros from the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline, Sanchez has gone 2-0 with a 4.82 ERA in four starts. He was the starting pitcher in the Astros' combined no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 3, his first appearance after joining Houston.
