When Giancarlo Stanton went back on the injured list, the New York Yankees recalled outfielder Mike Tauchman instead of Clint Frazier to take the slugger's place ahead of the London Series.
Frazier, who was disappointed about being sent to Triple-A following the club's acquisition of Edwin Encarnacion, understands why the Yankees' prioritized Tauchman's defense.
"I mean that's kind of what I thought it was," Frazier said, according to Mark Fischer of The Post. "In the back of my head, I'm thinking, 'Yeah my bat can make a difference in that lineup at times.' But then it's like, there's so much depth up there right now, defense might be more important than offense (right now) so they're going to put up enough runs, so it's a good decision."
The 24-year-old, whose name has popped up in various trade rumors throughout the season, isn't demoralized about spending more time in the minors. He's confident he'll get another crack at the big-league roster sooner than later.
"I feel pretty good about my chances after that London series, if I get going at the plate and continue to go out there and just play solid defense, don’t have any mistakes out there and just keep going forward."
Frazier has acclimated himself well at the plate during his time with the major-league club this season. He's hit .283/.330/.513 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs.
