Report: Vlad Jr. agrees to enter Home Run Derby
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has agreed to participate at the Home Run Derby at this year's All-Star Game at Progressive Field in Cleveland, a source confirmed to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae.
The rookie received a grade of 80 for his power as a prospect coming through the Blue Jays' minor-league system and wound up hitting 20 home runs in 95 minor-league games in 2018. He has seven long balls over his first 45 games since getting the call to the bigs.
His father, Vladimir Guerrero, took home the Home Run Derby trophy in 2007 when he defeated Alex Rios - then of the Blue Jays - in the finals.
This year's Home Run Derby is scheduled for Monday, July 8. The winner will receive a $1-million prize.
The rest of the field is yet to be determined, though New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and New York Yankees slugger Luke Voit have both expressed interest in participating.
