Dominican Republic Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez confirmed Wednesday that David Ortiz was not the intended target of the shooting that put the Boston Red Sox legend in hospital.

Rodriguez said during a press conference that his friend, David Fernandez, who was sitting with Ortiz, was the intended target. A motive was not given.

"It's shameful that there's been all these assumptions about a person of the caliber of David Ortiz," Rodriguez said, according to Marly Rivera of ESPN. "I will not rest until all the people involved are arrested. No act of this nature can go unpunished.“

While police have made 11 arrests in connection to the shooting, three men remain at large, including the man who police believe is the mastermind.

Ortiz is still recovering in a Boston hospital from the gunshot wound he suffered June 9 while sitting at a bar in Santo Domingo. Ortiz had portions of his intestines and colon, as well as his gallbladder removed.

On Tuesday, Ortiz's wife said doctor's upgraded his condition to "good" and he continues to make progress.
