Veteran right-hander Francisco Rodriguez has signed with the Acereros de Monclova in Mexico, sources tell Robert Murray of The Athletic.

K-Rod hasn't pitched in the majors since 2017 when he posted a 7.82 ERA in 25 1/3 innings with the Detroit Tigers. His goal, however, is to return to the bigs where he owns a career ERA of 2.86 with 437 saves over 16 seasons.

In 2008, Rodriguez set the single-season saves record of 62 when he was a member of the Los Angeles Angels. Edwin Diaz came closest to breaking it when he saved 57 games in 2018.

The 37-year-old spent some time in the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies organizations after being released by the Tigers in June 2017, but never reached the big leagues.

He spent last season with the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League where he recorded 27 saves with a 2.76 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 44 appearances.
