With the 69th pick in the 2019 MLB amateur draft, the Boston Red Sox selected Matthew Lugo, a prep shortstop from Puerto Rico.

Lugo is best known as the nephew of nine-time All-Star Carlos Beltran, and he attended the Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy, located in their home country of Puerto Rico.

The 18-year-old made a great impression on scouts during the summer showcase circuit. He's considered a premium athlete with substantial upside at the dish and in the field.
