The Chicago Cubs have signed veteran outfielder Carlos Gonzalez to a minor-league deal, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN.
Gonzalez opened the 2019 season on a minor-league deal with the Cleveland Indians. After having his contract selected midway through April, the 33-year-old hit .210/.282/.276 with two home runs in 30 games before being released.
The 33-year-old previously played 10 seasons with the Colorado Rockies before he became a free agent this past winter. The three-time All-Star owns an .845 OPS for his career.
Chicago's outfield currently ranks 14th in baseball, according to FanGraphs' WAR. Albert Almora Jr., Kyle Schwarber, and Jason Heyward comprise the everyday trio, though Kris Bryant has also been getting regular reps in left.
