With the 31st pick in the 2019 MLB amateur draft, the Los Angeles Dodgers selected Michael Busch, a junior second baseman out of North Carolina.
Busch, a first baseman and outfielder at UNC, was drafted by the Dodgers as a second baseman, the team announced. He did play some second base in the Cape Cod League over the summer but has primarily worked at first and the corner outfield in college.
Busch, who was not drafted out of high school, has improved at the plate during each of his three seasons at UNC and put up a 1.017 OPS during his Cape Cod League stint. He led the Tar Heels in multiple offensive categories as a sophomore and helped them reach last year's College World Series as the Chapel Hill Regional MVP. Busch earned All-ACC first-team honors this season.
The Minnesota native was a three-sport star in high school, quarterbacking Simley High to a state football final and also playing three years of varsity hockey.

MLB.com money quote: "Busch makes it look easy at the plate. He has a smooth left-handed swing with plenty of bat speed and a patient, balanced approach that allows him to hammer balls to all fields. He should hit for average and power while drawing plenty of walks, and few college players in this draft have a higher offensive ceiling or floor."
