Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis' streak of futility continues as he failed to register a hit in his 58th consecutive plate appearance, setting a new record among position players.
During Thursday's game against the Oakland Athletics, right-handed starter Aaron Brooks induced a hard-hit flyball out from Davis in the second inning, which was caught by center fielder Ramon Laureano.
The record was previously held by Tony Bernazard, who went hitless in 57 straight plate appearances in 1984 with the Cleveland Indians.
Davis grounded out to short in the fourth and walked in the seventh, pushing the streak of hitless plate appearances to 60. The former All-Star had already set the record for consecutive at-bats without a hit and has now gone 0-for-52 dating back to Sept.14, 2018.
The 33-year-old is under contract through the 2022 season and is still owed more than $90 million.
