The Minnesota Twins will likely be without Miguel Sano for the first month of the regular season after he underwent a wound debridement procedure for a laceration on his leg, according to Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com.
Sano, who's expected to serve as the Twins' starting third baseman, is scheduled to resume baseball activities in April with a return to big-league action following in May.
The 25-year-old slugger was in a walking boot in late February after suffering a cut on his heel while celebrating his Dominican Winter League title.
It's the latest setback for Sano, who struggled at the dish in 2018 while also missing time with a knee injury. In 71 games, he slashed .199/.281/.398 with 13 home runs.
Super-utility man Marwin Gonzalez could be the Twins' first choice at the hot corner as Sano recovers.
