Report: Mariners' Dipoto finalized Encarnacion trade from hospital bed

Nothing will stop Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto from completing a trade.

Dipoto finalized the Mariners' portion of Thursday's three-team trade for Edwin Encarnacion from his hospital bed, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports. Assistant GM Justin Hollander was nearby in case he was needed.

He was admitted to a Las Vegas hospital after developing blood clots in his lungs, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic. He is slated to be released later on Thursday.

Dipoto and the Mariners have orchestrated multiple high-profile trades already this offseason with Edwin Diaz, Jean Segura, James Paxton, Robinson Cano, Alex Colome, and others being moved. Carlos Santana didn't even get to play an inning with the club before being sent to the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
