The Baltimore Orioles are expected to name Brandon Hyde as their new manager, sources tell Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

However, general manager Mike Elias told reporters that he doesn't expect to make an announcement on the team's new manager this week, and said no decision has been officially made, according to Dan Connolly of The Athletic.

The 45-year-old Hyde served as bench coach for the Chicago Cubs during the 2018 season and would become the 43rd skipper in Orioles franchise history.

Hyde would succeed Buck Showalter, whose nine-year tenure with the team ended unceremoniously when the Orioles floundered to a 47-115 record - 61 games back of the first-place Boston Red Sox in the AL East. Showalter owned a 669-684 record as the Orioles skipper dating back to 2010.

Hyde previously managed minor-league teams in the Miami Marlins' organization before joining the Cubs as a bench coach in 2013 under Rick Renteria.

In four seasons as a minor-leaguer in the Chicago White Sox system, Hyde posted a .256/.375/.400 slash line with 14 home runs and two stolen bases as a first baseman and catcher.
