Report: A's eyeing LeMahieu
The Oakland Athletics are interested in signing free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu, a source tells Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
The two-time All-Star is coming off a down year, hitting .276/.321/.428 after batting at least .300 in three consecutive seasons and winning the National League batting title in 2016. He did, however, hit a career-high 15 home runs in 128 games in 2018 as a member of the Colorado Rockies.
The Athletics had previously shown interest in retaining 34-year-old Jed Lowrie, but the interest in LeMahieu, 30, could indicate the team is shifting its focus elsewhere.
The market for LeMahieu is starting to pick up, too, as the Washington Nationals have emerged as a potential suitor as the annual Winter Meetings get underway.
