Scott Boras: Murray will play baseball, not pro football
As far as Kyler Murray's agent is concerned, there's no question where his future lies in professional sports.
Despite winning the Heisman Trophy - college football's highest individual honor - on Saturday night, Murray will not pursue the NFL and will instead transition to a playing career with Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics, Scott Boras says.
"Kyler has agreed and the A's agreed to a baseball contract that gave him permission to play college football through the end of the collegiate season," Boras told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport earlier in the week. "After that, he is under contract to play baseball. That is not a determination to make. It's already done."
The A's selected Murray ninth overall in the 2018 MLB Draft. He was allowed to continue his college football career as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma and has led it to a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Murray beat out Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins for the Heisman after compiling 51 total touchdowns thus far this season.
Rapoport reports that Murray is currently projected as a second- or third-round NFL draft pick, but a general manager told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the five-foot-10 passer would be a late first-round selection.
He cited last year's Heisman winner, Baker Mayfield - who stands 6-foot-1 - as an accurate comparison for Murray.
"He's going to be a first-round pick," the GM said.
