Report: Mets, Indians discussing trade for Gomes
The New York Mets are looking to upgrade at catcher and have reportedly discussed acquiring Yan Gomes in a potential trade with the Cleveland Indians, according to Andy Martino of SNY.
The Mets aren't the only club expressing interest in the 31-year-old, as several teams have apparently inquired about Gomes already.
Gomes is coming off a fine season, during which he was named to his first All-Star roster and hit .266 with 16 home runs and 26 doubles in 112 games.
The depth chart in Queens currently features Kevin Plawecki and Tomas Nido, with oft-injured Travis d'Arnaud expected to be ready for Opening Day after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
While that's a crowded field, Gomes offers a more proven bat than any of those options. He's owed $7 million in 2019 with a pair of team options for the next two seasons at $9 million and $11 million, respectively.
