Report: Yankees, Phillies, Nationals among teams interested in Corbin

The market for Patrick Corbin is heating up, with the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Washington Nationals all showing interest in the free-agent left-hander, according to a report from Jon Morosi of MLB.com.

The Yankees and Phillies have been previously reported as interested parties, but this is the first news of the Nationals as a potential landing spot for the 29-year-old.

Coming off an 82-win campaign, the Nationals missed the playoffs last year for the first time in three seasons, and only the third time since 2012. Now, with outfielder Bryce Harper's free agency underway, the team appears to be entertaining other ways of returning to the postseason and may look to address the rotation.

Led by Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg, the Nationals' starting staff lacks some depth. The club is currently projected to use Tanner Roark, who posted a 4.34 ERA over 180 1/3 innings last year, and Erick Fedde, who authored a 5.54 ERA in 50 1/3 innings of work. Even further, the Nationals are without a left-handed starter.

Corbin posted a 3.15 ERA and 2.47 FIP over 33 starts last season, pitching 200 innings for the first time since 2013, prior to his Tommy John surgery. The left-hander posted a career high in strikeout rate, punching out more than 30 percent of batters faced.
