Report: Reds showing interest in Corbin, Happ
The Cincinnati Reds are reportedly showing interest in multiple free-agent starting pitchers, and are said to like both Patrick Corbin and J.A. Happ, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Corbin, 29, is entering his first season of free-agent eligibility and is coming off an impressive platform year. Throwing 200 innings over 33 starts, the left-hander authored a 3.15 ERA and 2.47 FIP.
The Arizona Diamondbacks tendered Corbin a $17.9-million qualifying offer. In the event Corbin rejects it, he would be attached to draft-pick compensation.
Meanwhile, Happ, a fellow left-hander, is heading into his age-36 season. Over 177 2/3 innings between two teams, the veteran posted a 3.65 ERA and 3.98 FIP. Happ is coming off a three-year deal worth $36 million, which he originally signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Finishing 2018 at 67-95, the Reds' starting pitching ranked 26th by FanGraphs WAR with a 5.02 ERA and 4.88 FIP.
