Hinch: 'Unbelievable' to assume Betts makes catch on controversial fly ball

Shortly after the American League Championship Series umpiring crew ruled that a fan had interfered with Mookie Betts' catch attempt on Jose Altuve's fly ball - depriving the Houston Astros of an early two-run homer and instead calling Altuve out - Astros manager A.J. Hinch came out to argue the controversial call.

Hinch remained flummoxed about the decision when interviewed by the TBS broadcast crew later in the game.

"My argument was more about the fact the ball was leaving the yard," Hinch said when asked about his conversation with crew chief Joe West, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.

"The trajectory was there. Jose paid the ultimate price for something out of his control. I'm not sure if Mookie makes that catch. He's a great athlete, but how it's an assumed out is unbelievable."

After reviewing the play in the first inning of Wednesday's Game 4, Major League Baseball ruled that the Joe West's original decision would stand, as Betts' glove closed due to fan interference before being able to make the catch.
