German Marquez wasted no time in establishing his dominance on Wednesday, as the Colorado Rockies pitcher tied a modern era MLB record with eight straight strikeouts to begin his outing against the Philadelphia Phillies.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Marquez joins 2014 Jacob deGrom and Jim Deshaies in 1986 as the only two men to accomplish the feat since 1900.

Not content with just one record on the night, the right-hander also set the Rockies' franchise mark for most strikeouts in a season, passing the total of 214 held by Ubaldo Jimenez in 2010.
