Report: Tigers broadcasters involved in physical altercation

FOX Sports Detroit play-by-play announcer Mario Impemba and analyst Rod Allen reportedly got into a physical altercation after working Tuesday's game between the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox, sources told Katie Strang of The Athletic.

Things were tense between the veteran broadcasters throughout the season, sources said, but tempers apparently flared following the 8-3 Tigers victory in Chicago. One source said the altercation was broken up by a third party.

"We are addressing an internal matter and we will not have any further comment at this time," FOX Sports Detroit general manager Greg Hammaren told Strang.

Allen's agent, Tom Shaer, said: "I don't discuss professional matters that involve my clients with people who are not my clients or their employers."

Impemba, 55, has been with FOX Sports Detroit since the 2002 season. The 58-year-old Allen joined the Tigers broadcast in 2003 after spending five years calling Arizona Diamondbacks games.

Matt Shepard and Kirk Gibson were brought in to host FOX Sports' "Tigers Live" show and call Thursday's game.

A Tigers spokesperson directed Strang to FOX Sports Detroit for any inquiries related to the incident.
