Puig calls Giants road instigators: 'It usually seems to happen' here

Tensions between the Dodgers and the rival Giants reached a boiling point near the end of Tuesday night's game at Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles outfielder Yasiel Puig and San Francisco catcher Nick Hundley were both ejected in the seventh inning after getting into a fight at home plate.

Puig has had his problems with the Giants before, and he called them out for being instigators on the road.

"It doesn't happen with other teams, and it doesn't seem to happen when we're in San Francisco," Puig said through an interpreter, according to Chris Haft of MLB.com. "It usually seems to happen when we're here, and I'm not going to let them act like that in our house."

Puig took issue with something Hundley said after the seemingly frustrated slugger fouled off a pitch from reliever Tony Watson.

"When I missed the pitch, I knew that was the best pitch Watson was going to throw me, so I was a little upset," Puig said. "(Hundley) told me to stop complaining and get back into the box, and when I got into his face he told me to also get out of his face, so that's when I got upset."

Puig added that he didn't like Hundley telling him what to do, which prompted the escalation.

For his part, Hundley didn't discuss what he said specifically but credited the playoff race for injecting life into the rivalry.

"We're competing on the field against a team we're chasing," Hundley said. "They've been scuffling a little bit and we're trying to catch them. It's obviously a nice rivalry. We had some words, pushed a couple of times and you saw what happened. There's really nothing more to it than that."

With the 2-1 victory, the Giants trail the Dodgers by three games and the NL West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks by five.

Both players could face suspensions for the scuffle. Puig said he will appeal if one is levied.

"If they suspend me, I think they have to suspend him," Puig added, according to BIll Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
