Back-to-back crushing walk-off loses have left Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez at a loss for words.

"I don't know what else to do," Martinez said regarding the bullpen following a 7-6 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, according to Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post.

The defeat, which dropped the once NL East favorites seven games back in the division race, was a roller coaster of emotions and came just 24 hours after the Nationals suffered a 4-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs via a pinch-hit, walk-off grand slam with two outs in the ninth.

"It's about how you respond to this," Nationals ace Max Scherzer told reporters at Wrigley Field on Sunday night.

Monday's loss to the Cardinals was equally as heartbreaking for the Nationals. Washington took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth before surrendering four runs. They rallied to tie the game 6-6 in the top of the ninth, only for Koda Glover to allow a walk-off solo home run to Paul DeJong. It was the Nationals fifth loss in their last seven games.

"He definitely got my ass," Glover said, according to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

Since the front office opted not to sell at the non-waiver trade deadline, Washington has gone 7-6, while the team's bullpen has allowed 23 earned runs in 35 2/3 innings (5.81 ERA) this month.
