The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially shut down Jake Lamb, as the team announced Thursday that the third baseman will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

Lamb finishes his 2018 campaign with a .222 batting average, .307 OBP, and just six home runs in 238 plate appearances, easily his worst production since his 37-game debut in 2014.

Despite having spent time on the disabled list, Lamb still leads the team with 52 games played at the hot corner. Daniel Descalso and Deven Marrero have each made 33 appearances at third base, with recent acquisition Eduardo Escobar starting at the position in three of the team's last four games.

The Diamondbacks (60-49) are currently tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the NL West.
