Report: Orioles want Yankees' Sheffield in trade for Machado

Kamil Krzaczynski / USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly willing to trade Manny Machado to the division-rival New York Yankees if top pitching prospect Justus Sheffield is included in the deal, a source tells Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

The Orioles lack pitching depth and none of the hurlers in their system rank in MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects, so their interest in Sheffield isn't a surprise.

However, with Machado entering free agency after the season, it's unlikely Sheffield is shipped out of New York for the shortstop.

Sheffield has pitched effectively at every level of the minor leagues. In his first taste of Triple-A this season, he's 3-3 with a 2.53 ERA and 8.84 K/9 across 57 innings.
