The Boston Red Sox will place catcher Christian Vazquez on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured right pinkie finger, the team confirmed according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald.

Vasquez sustained the injury sliding into second base during Saturday's 15-4 drubbing of the Kansas City Royals. Sandy Leon replaced him behind the plate in the eighth inning.

"It's a big hit for us," manager Alex Cora said.

Blake Swihart could see some time at the position, in addition to Leon, during the 27-year-old's absence.

Vasquez is known primarily for his defensive skills. Through 59 games this season, he's hitting .212/.249/.300 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.

He's set to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine how much time he'll miss, according to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe.
