Los Angeles Angels infielder Zack Cozart will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, the team announced on Wednesday.
"Zack Cozart received a second opinion on his left shoulder after experiencing continued discomfort during his progressions," a release stated. "After additional imaging and clinical examination, it was recommended that he undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Zack will undergo surgery in Los Angeles in the near future. We will update with additional information when appropriate."
Cozart met with Dr. Neal ElAttrache to get a second opinion on his shoulder injury after he experienced continued discomfort, manager Mike Scioscia told The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.
After the Angels 9-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, Scioscia confirmed Cozart would miss the remainder of the season.
Out since June 13, Cozart has struggled offensively in his first season with the Angels. He's hitting .219/.296/.362 with five home runs and 13 doubles over 253 plate appearances.
