The New York Mets have put outfielder Yoenis Cespedes' return to major-league action on hold for the time being.
Cespedes, out since May 13 with a right hip flexor strain, left Saturday's rehab game in Double-A with tightness in his right quad after suffering the injury running out his second double of the game. He's been sent back to Florida to restart his rehab.
"He feels like he's not quite ready, so we're going to send him to Florida to kind of start that day-to-day process of getting him to being where he needs to be," manager Mickey Callaway said, according to ESPN.
Callaway added that the injury is related to the hip flexor issue that has kept him out of the lineup for over a month, and that the tightnes is at the point where his quad attaches to his hip.
Cespedes, who was initially expected to return Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves, was batting .255/.316/.474 with eight home runs in 37 games before the hip injury. He's closer to a return than when he first injured his hip, but there's no new timetable for his recovery.
"It's not a total setback to Day 1 but still not feeling the way he would like it to feel to come up here and contribute," Callaway said.
