The prospect of Tim Lincecum landing a spot in the Texas Rangers' bullpen is looking less and less likely.
Lincecum owns a 7.45 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in 9 2/3 innings in Triple-A this season as he attempts a comeback after having not pitched in the majors since 2016. The 33-year-old is currently on a 30-day rehab assignment that expires Tuesday, and the Rangers will either have to activate him or keep him on the disabled list which would prevent him from being able to pitch, according to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.
Lincecum could then ask to be released in order to seek another opportunity.
Despite the Rangers owning the worst record in the American League West, the bullpen hasn't been a major issue and there is little room to add Lincecum.
The two-time Cy Young winner last pitched in the bigs with the Los Angeles Angels, posting a 9.16 ERA and 1.37 WHIP while allowing 11 home runs in 38 1/3 innings.
