The Boston Red Sox expect to be on the hook for the rest of Hanley Ramirez's salary this season.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Tuesday he believes it's highly unlikely the team will find a trade partner for Ramirez after the club designated him for assignment Friday.

"It would come completely out of left field," Dombrowski told NESN, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.

Dombrowski said the club has until tomorrow to make a decision on Ramirez, who has roughly $15 million remaining on his contract for 2018.

Once Ramirez is granted his release, he will be free to sign with any team. In 44 games, he's hitting .254/.313/.395 with six home runs, seven doubles, and 35 strikeouts.
