There is a new title-holder for most expensive modern-day baseball card.
An Upper Deck 1993 Derek Jeter rookie card sold at auction for a grand total of $99,100. It's the most a modern card has ever yielded.
Winning bidder Adrian Proietti said the card completes his set from the '93 collection, though he almost acquired a pristine copy of the same card a decade earlier.
"In 2008, I was offered a PSA 10 for $25,000," Proietti said, according to ESPN's Darren Rovell. "I passed on it. I think the $99,100 is still a very good deal."
PSA is a hobby card and collectible grader that rates the conditions of these cards out of a score of 10. Only 22 UD Jeter rookie cards have received a perfect 10 rating, due to a foil strip on the card that's made it difficult to maintain its integrity.
While the price paid is nearly twice as costly as the previous record for a baseball card of $54,576, it's still a far cry from basketball and football valuations. A LeBron James rookie card owns the top spot, going for $312,000 in 2016, while a pair of Tom Brady rookie cards sold for $250,000 and more than $100,000, respectively.
