Adam Eaton's lingering ankle issue, which has sidelined the Washington Nationals outfielder since early April, has been resolved after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair a cartilage tear.
The center fielder will be in a walking boot for one week before beginning rehab from the injury, according to Dan Kolko of MASN Sports, adding that a return in 2018 is still possible.
Eaton visited three different doctors before going under the knife in Wisconsin because none of the previous MRIs and tests were able to notice the chondral flap on the cartilage, according to Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post.
Eaton, 29, missed almost all of the 2017 campaign after suffering a torn ACL and meniscus in his left knee. Over eight games this season, Eaton posted a 1.079 OPS but was placed on the disabled list for what was expected to be a short stint. However, any time Eaton attempted to ramp up rehab on what was believed to be a bone bruise, the pain resurfaced.
