The St. Louis Cardinals have made a change to their ninth-inning hierarchy.
Before even recording his first save with the club, Greg Holland has been demoted and Bud Norris has once again become the closer, according to the Associated Press.
Norris had served as the team's closer for much of April as Holland worked his way into a routine. The Cardinals signed him to a one-year, $14-million contract on Opening Day, and he was a bit rusty to start the campaign.
"I don't think he'll be used in the ninth inning at this time," Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said.
After allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits to blow the save in Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates without recording an out, he was on thin ice. In a non-save situation on Sunday, he allowed another three hits and a run in an inning of work.
Norris, meanwhile, has recorded five saves with a 2.03 ERA and a 13.50 K/9 over 13 appearances. He'll take the reins for now.
