The Arizona Diamondbacks have the best record in the National League at 15-6 after defeating the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Sunday. It also marked the team's seventh consecutive series victory to open the 2018 season, something that hasn't been done since 2005.

What else did the Chicago White Sox do in 2005? They won the World Series.

One of the biggest reasons for the team's early-season success has been the re-emergence of lefty starter Patrick Corbin. Corbin toyed with the Padres for much of Sunday's game, allowing only two runs on two hits while striking out 11 over six innings. He has struck out at least eight hitters in each of his five starts, and he nearly tossed a no-hitter against the San Francisco Giants.

Through five starts, Corbin is 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.

Surprisingly, only one of the series wins has been a sweep, taking three straight against division rival Los Angeles Dodgers in early April. It's going to be tough sledding if they hope to extend the streak, though. After Monday's off day, the D-Backs face the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies before traveling to Washington for a three-game set against the Nationals. Arizona then returns home to host the Dodgers once again.
