The New York Yankees have agreed to a minor-league deal with first baseman Adam Lind after releasing him halfway through spring training.
Lind will report to Tampa on Thursday for extended spring training.
The 34-year-old first baseman/designated hitter had an impressive 2017 coming off of the bench for the Washington Nationals. In 301 plate appearances, Lind finished with a .303/.362/.513 slash line with 14 home runs.
Despite a strong performance for the National League East champions, Lind was unable to find meaningful employment, settling for a spring invite with the Yankees early in March, though he was released from the deal after five games.
Whether a path to the majors will become available is still to be determined. However, since releasing Lind, Yankees first baseman Greg Bird has suffered another foot injury. Tyler Austin and Neil Walker have primarily shared the load at first base.
