Arenado, Perdomo receive 5-game suspensions for Rockies-Padres brawl
Major League Baseball has handed down multiple punishments to players involved in Wednesday's benches-clearing brawl between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres.
Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado and Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo each received a five-game suspension, while Colorado outfielder Gerardo Parra (four games), and Padres reliever Buddy Baumann (one game) also incurred bans.
The incident occurred in the third inning after Arenado took exception to a ball thrown behind his back by Perdomo. He immediately charged the mound and threw a punch.
"I didn't like it. They thought they had to do something, but I had to do something too. That's kind of why I went out there," Arenado said.
Arenado and Parra will appeal their suspensions. Padres catcher A.J. Ellis, infielder Freddy Galvis, and Rockies pitcher German Marquez were all fined.
