Matt Shoemaker, the Los Angeles Angels right-hander who was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right forearm earlier this week, will undergo electromyography (EMG) and a nerve conduction study, the team announced, following an MRI that revealed no acute trauma in his elbow.
The club is expected to provide an update on Shoemaker's status following Monday's tests.
Shoemaker, who first started feeling discomfort toward the end of Sunday's 90-pitch outing against the Oakland Athletics, underwent surgery in August to alleviate radial nerve compression in his forearm, and the 31-year-old remarked after his start that his current discomfort feels "pretty similar."
"I'm more frustrated than anything," Shoemaker told Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. "The last two days have been pretty tough. It's like, 'Why am I having this feeling again?'"
In Shoemaker's absence, the Angels will have JC Ramirez start Saturday against Oakland, while Parker Bridwell was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take his spot on the active roster.
