Ian Kinsler almost made it out of his first game with a new team unscathed.
The Los Angeles Angels are placing the second baseman on the 10-day disabled list with a groin/adductor injury Saturday, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. Infielder Nolan Fontana will be called up from Triple-A to take Kinsler's place on the roster.
Kinsler batted leadoff in Friday night's game against the Oakland Athletics, but left in the ninth inning after sliding into second base trying to break up a double play.
The 35-year-old had been dealing with a groin injury since the Monday before Opening Day. That kept him out of the team's game Thursday, with Zack Cozart getting the start at second base. Cozart is again playing the keystone Saturday and batting leadoff in Kinsler's absence.
In his Angels debut, Kinsler went 1-for-4, tweaking his injured groin shortly after registering his first base hit of the season.
