As the big club continues to flounder, the Toronto Blue Jays received some disappointing news at the lower levels Thursday.

The Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats placed top prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the seven-day disabled list with a leg injury.

"We're just being extra cautious. It's not expected to be anything serious," Blue Jays director of player development Gil Kim told Rob Longley of Postmedia.

Guerrero departed Wednesday's game after sliding into second base, though Fisher Cats manager John Schneider said there was no cause for concern.

"He feels fine, we're just being cautious with it," Schneider said Wednesday, according to Chris Bumbaca of MiLB.com. "Just to make sure whenever he's back to be full strength."

He added: "He checks out fine, but with him and all of our players, we're just being careful and making sure he's good to go."

Guerrero has been dominating the Eastern League despite being 19 years old. In 53 games, he's hitting .407/.457/.667 with 11 home runs, 18 doubles, and 55 RBIs.

While the Blue Jays have been reluctant to rush Guerrero to the majors, the club has reportedly discussed the possibility of calling him up to Triple-A Buffalo within the next month, though those plans might now be in jeopardy with the recent injury.
